The Barn
The Lazy R Barn is an icon of the Drybuck Valley. The original Barn is believed to have been built in the late 1800's. The lumber for the Barn was cut from the Drybuck valley and milled at one of the local Drybuck steam-powered sawmills.
Inscriptions on the barn wall have been found and dated back to 1889. Some of the Boards for the barn walls are nearly 3 feet wide and 3 inches thick. Unfortunately the barn was built in a marshy area of ground and, due to age and wet conditions, became unsuitable for use. However, no one was willing to allow this majestic building to just disappear.
Instead it was taken down piece by piece, board by board...every nail painstakingly removed. Then each serviceable piece of lumber, tin, or nail was reused to build the current barn. Any lumber that was needed that could not be obtained from the original barn was sawn right here on the ranch from trees grown on the ranch. This was done in order to stay true to the rough sawn, local grown heritage that pervades this beautiful building. The result is a gorgeous combination of weathered barn wood and fresh blue pine.
For the last 50 years the Barn has served as the site of many a square dance and family reunion. It has been used for group dinners, wedding receptions and a host of other activities that laud it's historic beauty. With it’s spaciousness and rustic quality, this beautiful barn is the perfect place for whatever event you may be planning.
The Barn features a King Bed Suite, a 2 Queens Suite, and a full kitchen!
