The Lazy R Barn is an icon of the Drybuck Valley. The original Barn is believed to have been built in the late 1800's. The lumber for the Barn was cut from the Drybuck valley and milled at one of the local Drybuck steam-powered sawmills.
Inscriptions on the barn wall have been found and dated back to 1889. Some of the Boards for the barn walls are nearly 3 feet wide and 3 iLazy R Barnnches thick. Unfortunately the barn was built in a marshy area of ground and, due to age and wet conditions, became unsuitable for use. However, no one was willing to allow this majestic building to just disappear.
Instead it was taken down piece by piece, board by board...every nail painstakingly removed. Then each serviceable piece of lumber, tin, or nail was reused to build the current barn. Any lumber that was needed that could not be obtained from the original barn was sawn right here on the ranch from trees grown on the ranch. This was done in order to stay true to the rough sawn, local grown heritage that pervades this beautiful building. The result is a gorgeous combination of weathered barn wood and fresh blue pine.
For the last 50 years the Barn has served as the site of many a square dance and family reunion. It has been used for group dinners, wedding receptions and a host of other activities that laud it's historic beauty. With it’s spaciousness and rustic quality, this beautiful barn is the perfect place for whatever event you may be planning.
The Barn features a King Bed Suite, a 2 Queens Suite, and a full kitchen!
The Ranch House
With the renovation of the original Ranch House, it is almost reminiscent of the olds days when travelers and freighters going from Thunder Mountain Mines near Cascade to the Boise Valley would travel the Drybuck Road. At that time, Highway 55 didn't exist and Drybuck Road was the main route to Cascade or McCall. Travelers would stop and stable their horses up the road at the Livery Stable and then put their feet up for the night in the hotel located where the Ranch House is now.
The Ranch House features: - 1 King bed - 2 Queen beds - 2 Full beds - 6 Twin beds - Full kitchen and laundry
Originally a settlers homestead built around the turn of the century, this beautiful old homestead house has been completely rebuilt into a comfortable and fully updated guest retreat. It is set in a semi-wooded area with fabulous views and panoramic vistas within a two minute hike. It is located on another part of the ranch about 3 miles from our main facilities at the Lazy R. The Cottonwood Cabin is an excellent location to book for overflow lodging from a wedding or group retreat you may have planned at the Lazy R. If it is not booked in conjunction with one of our large events it is available to book to outside groups on an individual basis. Bring ATV's, hike, hunt, or just bring a book to read. This is a great place to escape to and still be just a short drive to town.
The Cottonwood Cabin features: - 4 Bedroom/3 bath with Spacious kitchen and living area - Room 1: Full Master Bedroom with Master Bath - Room 2: One Queen Bed - Room 3: Two Twin Beds - Room 4: One Queen Bed - Laundry/Utility Room
